Every Sport has its Hero - Past Inductees in the Broward County Sports Hall
of Fame
With nearly 70 past inductees, the Broward County Sports Hall of Fame is one
of Fort Lauderdale's most prominent sport-related facilities. Sports recognized
in the Hall of Fame include everything from diving and archery to soccer and
waterskiing, ensuring that no sport legend should ever go unsung. Customers of

few of the Hall's most prominent past inductees. These include:
- Ed "Whitey" Ford - Known as one of the New York Yankees' and baseball's
"All Time Greats" this 43 year Fort Lauderdale resident was inducted into
the Broward County Sports Hall of Fame in 2005. "Whitey" debuted with the
Yankees back in 1950. He would later become an eight-time All-Star and the
1961 Cy Young Award winner. "Whitey" also holds the records for the most
career wins in the history of the New York Yankees with 236.
- Eddie Jones - Before retiring in 2005, Eddie Jones spent 17 years in the NFL
with the Miami Dolphins. He was president of the club from 1995 to 2005. During
his tenure with the Dolphins, Jones received numerous honors for his community
contributions. Jones is also an Air Force veteran.
- Laurie Fleming Rowley - A native of Fort Lauderdale, Laurie Fleming Rowley
is one of the county's All Time Tennis Greats. Laurie won her first National Age
Group Championship at the Orange Bowl Tennis Tournament when she was just 10.
Since turning pro in 1973, Laurie has competed in Wimbledon, the US Open, and
the French Open. She was ranked 13th in the world at one point.
